Quiet color, clear intent

Subconscious #1 anchors a room with confident blocks of teal, ochre, and a small jolt of red-violet—order and play meeting on the same wall.

A pause on the way in

Where the eye lands first

Graphic calm

Bare walls can make even a well-edited space feel unfinished. Subconscious #1 brings a defined focal point that reads as considered rather than collected in a hurry. Its horizontal composition settles above a console, fireplace, or entry bench without shouting.

The room clicks

Scale and color do the heavy lifting in a living space. The saturated blue and mustard fields, punctuated by a crisp capsule of red and purple, guide the palette and rhythm of the room. One piece is enough to suggest intention, setting a tone guests notice the moment they arrive.

For the decisive curator

Someone shaping a coastal-leaning space who wants a finished wall accent that feels modern, graphic, and warm.

Put it to work

Hang Subconscious #1 in the entryway or above a mantel to define the room’s color story in a single move.

Artist background

Holly McWhorter’s approach

Holly McWhorter is an interdisciplinary artist, designer, and writer whose abstract paintings and prints probe how color and form interact to evoke feeling. A native of Philadelphia, a longtime New York resident and now based in Copenhagen, she treats creative practice as a way to explore the world and make a positive impact. Primarily self‑taught as an artist, Holly also holds graduate degrees in interior architecture from Parsons and material culture from SUNY, plus a BA in classical music and philosophy from Spelman College. Her work’s thoughtful compositional sense and nuanced palettes translate naturally into interiors—pieces that invite close looking while setting the tone of a room.
