Willow Bonsai Ceramics began with Antony Smith’s lifelong study of bonsai and his background in landscape design. An unexpected purchase of a small pottery business in 2014 led Antony from design into making, and in 2016 Mavourneen joined the effort, turning the work into a family studio. They rebuilt their studio in the United States (begun August 2024) and now handcraft every piece in Colorado. Each pot is high‑fired to cone 10 (2300°F / 1260°C) to become vitrified stoneware; the makers treat variation in surface and shape as a signature of handmade craft rather than a flaw.
